UPCOMING PERFORMANCES

Sonic Front with Dirar Kalash and others. Cafe Oto, London [Oct 2]

Info: Featuring Kalash on guitar, piano, sax, Nicolás Jaar on piano, bass clarinet, Max Hallett on drums and John Edwards on bass. Sonic Front statement: After a year of zionist massacres, encompassing all of Palestine, Yemen, Syria and Lebanon -added to decades of occupation and looting- we see little to no change in policy from the pitiful halls of government in the US, UK and Europe while mainstream western media outlets continue to be nothing but another wing of imperialist propaganda. What can poetry and sound do in a time like this? Be a witness to the violence, archive the pain and the triumphs of the martyrs and reject normalization of white supremacist violence anywhere we see it. Violence comes on all fronts therefore we must resist on all fronts. – Sonic Front. Cafe Oto, Oct 2, 7;30pm.

The Ear of the Storm

comissioned essay for www.oceanicrefractions.org

"Interview in Corriere della Sera

An excerpt from the interview: "After many protests around the world for the dignity of Palestinians, nothing has changed on the ground, actually things have only gotten worse with diseases added to bombings and famine. We live in a system that must normalize enormous amounts of violence to function. We can't look at our phones and think about cobalt mines in the Congo. I could say that the role of culture is to not normalize the violence that is so pervasive around us. And maybe it's true. But at this moment, millions of Sudanese have had to flee their homes due to the aggression of the UAE-backed militias, millions of Ukrainians have lost everything they held dear. Who benefits from this? Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Leonardo… The military industrial complex benefits from these horrors: you can see profits spike every time a new war emerges. And oil and gas companies profit too. At the end of last year, Israel granted new exploration licenses to Eni in an area adjacent to the coast of Gaza. Will those who invest in death ever be judged for their crimes?"

"Gaza is calling" by mustafa
